If I am right, Kakshi could slowly be getting "taken over" by Pain. Like the person being interrogated after Jiraiya kidnapped him. All those spikes in his brain. Could that happen to Itachi?!?!?! At least they know how the antennas work, and that a barrier can stop the process.
