TBH Naruto has become less of a spammer ever since he figured out that he could use his clones to gather information. Mostly in part two he has used clones for diversionary tactics, feints and other various strategical means like helping with techniques, transformation fients, collecting senjutsu chakra, distributing chakra and a shields. Granted in part 1 a lot of his strategy revolved around making lots of clones to attack the opponent, but you have to admit he uses them completely differently now.

Ever since the advent of shadow clones, Naruto's skills have improved tremendously, and besides, each time he spams them its so much fun. KCM clones, Sage clones.....

Naruto has stopped spamming clones mostly since part 1- he uses his chakra much more tactically now.
-why make 1,000 clones to pumel your enemy when a rasenshuriken obliterates them?

remember, naruto's chakra is split evenly between clones- so if he makes 2,000 clones; each individual clones has 1/2000 of naruto's total chakra suply.
