Rasengan itself is not wind release but what Naruto used against Kakuzu is the wind release rasengan and the one he throws (against pain) is the rasenshuriken cause it can be thrown like a shuriken But its only a classification by narutopedia

No it isn't. It is just spiraling chakra. He as added wind into the rasengan to make wind style rasengan and the completed wind style rasenshuriken.
