Who do you have the most respect for?

Kushina, Itachi and perhaps Yahiko as well.
That does not however mean they are my favorite, though they do have my respect.

I'd have to go with Jiraiya, for a few reasons.

He never abandoned the principles by which he lived his life.
He showed compassion to even those from other villages.
He was a phenomenal teacher and continued the Will of Fire.

I can't really say for sure who I have the most, but these characters are those I have a ton of respect for.

Hinata: Unlike every other character on this list, Hinata isn't a Kage level shinobi, and yet here she goes with the same courage to fight their common enemies. Stood up to Pain like Jiraiya. Was ready to be impaled like Naruto's parents (was impaled if you think back to Pain). Now she stands almost at the head of the Shinobi world against the Juubi. Also, she may not have natural talent, but she works hard and shares the motto of the one she loves. (Figures I'd explain more for her since she might seem like an odd choice)

Kisame: I believe the only character to commit suicide in order to protect the endeavors of comrades. Probably the only heroic death in a situation in which he really DIDN'T HAVE to die...just imprisonment.

Itachi: Though other alternatives should have been made, he killed his clan to save his brother and his village.

Jiraiya: died trying to find the Key to Pain

Minato: died to save his son and village

Then I'd give attitude/appearance props to:

Kakuzu: didn't underestimate foes (a rarity in antagonists it seems)

Shikamaru: strategy and demeanor

Han: Kasa, Armor, Jinjuriki, FALCON KICK

Kushina: died to save her son and village

Rock Lee: Went into shinobi life already screwed cause he lacks Jutsu skill....has become an amazing shinobi.

Neji: Died protecting his cousin and Naruto

Itachi because of whatever he went through and still did what is wright for his village and also because he is awesome ,cool and an idol and iwhat not.
Then Jiraiya and Nagato.
