So who do you call to protect you from child killing cops? If a civilian did this they would be facing the death penalty.

A 13-year-old boy carrying a replica assault rifle was shot and killed Tuesday by Sonoma County sheriff's deputies in Santa Rosa, authorities and local media reported.

Two deputies spotted the boy near the intersection of Moorland and West Robles avenues at 3 p.m. Tuesday "with what appeared to be some type of rifle," according to a news release from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The deputies ordered the teenager to drop the rifle "and at some point immediately thereafter, the deputies fired several rounds from their handguns at the subject striking him several times," according to the sheriff's office.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy's father identified him to The Press Democrat as Andy Lopez. He said the replica gun his son was carrying belonged to a friend.

Deputies also found a plastic handgun in his waistband, according to the sheriff's office.

Kid probably pointed it at the cops or motioned like he was about to do so. Unless the cops were completely incompetent, they wouldn't have shot him for just holding it.

people holding fake guns are often shot and killed by police officers.. :(

If a non police officer did the shooting they would be murderers and vigilante .

Its sort of the cops job to be there to stop a gun wielder . .-.

This happens too often for people to not discuss this with children and others.

It's against the law to carry fake guns around in the open. If he didn't immediately put it down then the cops had no choice. What if it had been real and they got shot by him?

Sad event but this I dont think the Police was much as fault here .... their intentions ere mostly good ...

Lieutenant Paul Henry, who is investigating the incident for the Santa Rosa police department, said two Sonoma county sheriff's deputies had been patrolling a street near the boy's home on Tuesday when they saw him walking with what appeared to be an assault weapon in his left hand.

One of the deputies, who did not immediately realise that the person he was seeing from behind was a child, shouted twice: "Put down the gun," according to Henry and a police statement.

"The subject turned toward the deputies, and as he was doing that the barrel of the weapon was rising toward the deputies," Henry said. The deputy then fired rounds, killing the boy.
The Poor boy was carrying the gun in an very odd manner and not unlike someone ready to use it soon (enough of such people on the news) ..... but still they cld have retrained themselves and not overreacted like that.

Displaying a real AK-47 next to the plastic one recovered from the scene, Henry pointed out the similarities in their appearances. The pellet gun was shorter and lacked a bright orange piece meant to mark it as a toy.

Pellet guns, which use compressed air or other gases to fire pellets or spherical balls, are sometimes manufactured to resemble assault weapons. Police also found a plastic handgun tucked into the boy's pants.
The main fault I think lies with the manufacturing company ... they made the gun really realistic which could not be identified as a toy immediately.

Here is the image .....

Anyway may the poor boy find rest ....

Dunno what state you are from but in the sane part of the United States seeing someone with one is no big deal. Lots of aerosoft and paintballers over here.

The cops had no choice but to fatally shoot him? Bullshit. Could have shot him in the leg easily, no need to unload on someone who has committed no crimes. They would have deserved it seeing as the cops were willing to murder someone without having broken any laws or being under reasonable suspicion. The gun wasn't fake and those cops just killed an innocent man, there is no reset button and you cannot give that kid back his life. Shooting someone should be a last resort not the first thing you do.
Call military police . i think they need something like that to punish policemen who break police rules .
Agreed. Unfortunately many corrupt cops get off scott free.

Well in the United States where I'm from, we know how to spell airsoft. The kid turned towards them with an ak replica so what do you except them to do? If they shot him in the leg, he could've shot back and killed them
