I was thinking the same thing, but you have to ask yourself; If Boruto truly awakened Byakugan, why does he have only one? Why does he have a scar over the eye where his only byakugan is located? And Why is it when he activates it, no veins appear on his face?

I don't think it's as simple as him awakening it (in one eye).

Thugigan is a badass eye dojutsue that is there to make you look gangster. Characters who posses it are guaranteed to look badass. Now what it does for user? It grants them the Gangster status. A status no ninja has reached as of yet. Boruto is the chosen thug to wield this dojutsue because he vowed to rebel against his dad. He is the most swaggest swagster on the planet.

Its safest to assume its Byakugan because of its design. Sharingan, Sharinnegan and Rinnegan are out of the question, leaving Tenseigan which is a possibility. That would mean either Himawari, Hinata, or another Hyuuga unlocked tenseigan, which is an assumption. Since its only an assumption, we can't use it to theorycraft.

I think it's transplanted, The whole scar thing and single Dojutsu over wounded eye, Keeping the eye shut, Basically a mirror of kakashi.
Even though i would find it stupid that Boruto wouldn't get his own byakugan, Even when his sister did, Then rubbing salt into the wound giving someone of the hyuga bloodline a mere transplanted one.

Sarada probably heal his eye , and byakugan was used to replace it , and because of sarada op medical ninjutsu and borutos uzumaki DNA the Byakugan doesn't require focuse to be active because uzumakiness
