Am I missing something? Was Kimimaro's clan evil or something?

Kimimaros clan was very evil, the Kaguya. They started small scale wars and invaded villages just for their intense love of fighting. They also only unlocked Kimimaro when they needed him to fight, locking him back up after.

Kimimaros story is pretty sad actually :|
