Quality > Quantity. In regards to Gaara's sand tanking capability. Dude protected Mei I believe from 5 Susano'o swords, along with 5 others aiming for him.

Well the five Susanoo swords that Gaara protected Mei from, came from wood clones itself. The more clones you multiply, the less power is put into every one of them. So the force behind their swing will be a lot less than just one susanoo with all of the casters chakra in it.

I agree that explosive force is different from gravitational force, and in fact the force from gravity itself is a lot more effective than air repulsion (shockwave). So for Gaara, wouldn't that serve as a bigger issue because it is gravity that he's fighting against?

He is one of the strongest characters, but even he wasn't putting much effort into the kages.

So i'm not entirely impress with the sword thing as much, that's why I kept going on with that topic.

However for the sand density, I think it will be most effective against shrina tensei if it is mixed with his dad's gold dust release. It will anchor gaara effectively to the ground like it did the Mizukage's jooki boy.
