Honestly, I don't think anyone would be able to. He is the fastest shinobi on foot, and while Sasuke can teleport, he has no way of counter-attacking. Madara here would be the most likely candidate to fight against him. I'm pretty sure he would have killed Gai hadn't it been for Kakashi.

I still firmly stand by the notion that 8th gate Gai is the fastest person in the manga, especially when using Night Gai. In Edo form, he'd be able to use the latter without drawback due to regenerative capabilities, so honestly, only Kaguya can put him down for sure (and Juubi Madara with both eyes and Sharinnegan third eye). Naruto should be able to as well purely due to Truth Seeking Orbs (assuming he can use them like Madara does as a turtle shell). Sasuke has his chances, but it isn't as clearcut a victory as if it were normal 8th gate Gai.

it seems that madara has been the only exception when it comes to ET, since he was the only one who was brought back stronger than he had ever been, unlike the hokages and other shinobi

That's not true since if it was only about his rinnegan being fake, he wouldn't have been able to trash hashirama's gates the instant he got a flesh and blood body, nor would he have been able to manhandle SM Naruto or the V1 alliance members based on his earlier performance against fodder alliance members.

And his Rinnegan -> Original owner could be just some arrogant statement, not necessarily true.

I dont see how that would be true.
Danzo could use Izanagi just as well as Madara, and Kotoamatsukami just as well as Shisui would.

sure he manhandled them after gaining the rinnegan, that's not part of my argument. I agree that him gaining his real rinnegan rather than a fake had a lot to do with the difference between him and his edo self. Also, it couldn't have just been his speed, his strength also drastically increased as shown by him busting out of hashirama's gates and knocking SM NAruto away.

oh wait I think i get it now. You are saying edo madara > living EMS Madara then? I can agree with that since EMS Madara's PS is his most powerful thing, while Edo Madara has PS + other stuff + unlimited chakra. However if it's just things like physical attributes, we know living Madara >> edo madara, and Gai w/ his 8th gates is all about physical attributes.

Edo Gai isn't as fast as Alive Gai. That said, peak madara neg diff, peak Naruto neg diff, juubito low-mid diff, gudo dama erases gai's existence.
