"Myself" is just a generalization of many other definitions only known to you. So you are still defining yourself.

I understand what you are trying to say, but in this case, myself merely stands for myself.
It doesn't stand for anything I am perceived to be.
I am simply me at this very moment.
And the past me, is not me, it is a separate being that existed prior to me.

The only thing I can identify myself as is me. I am me, I am nobody else.

So if the past you is not you, then what's the difference between the past and present you? That's what defines you

The difference is that I exist, while past me has ceased to exist, just as I will cease to exist in the future.
We do not exist in past, and we do not exist in the future. We only exist at this very moment, moment so brief, that by the time you take time to think of who you are, you cease to exist.
The only true way to define myself is as myself.

But that's not true. The past you still exists in the present, he just evolved. Without the past experiences, you would not be the same person.

Everything that exists can be broken down to a sum of parts, and everything has many meanings to its existence.

When someone asks "who are you?" They're asking for us to define an aspect of ourselves that really stands out; like being a writer. That stands out. That's something people might remember you by or associate you with.

When you say you define yourself as yourself, what you're saying is that you have an autobiography that defines you as you.

-race
-gender
-likes/dislikes
-hobbies
-etc.

A clock is made from cogs, but the total sum makes the clock. When we define a clock, we say it's a device that tells time. We don't give the full description of what it actually is made out of, how it works, etc.

If everyone answers your question "I only define myself as myself" then what's the point of the question if everyone has the same answer? Why ask the question when you won't understand the answer?

Nobody knows the exact definition of a person aside for the person themselves. So that's why we simplify our answer and give something that others might understand. Like being a writer.

I do not exist in the past, nor do I exist in the future.
Thus, the past me does not exist.

I think this discussion helped to define me though, thank you.

I am a collection of infinite number of choices that infinite number of past me's have made, that led to me being at this very spot at this very time.

However, I disagree with that my most prominent characteristics are who I am. They are merely parts of who I am, me being something that cannot be defined by anything else than me. Because many people can be associated with the word "writer", it does not specifically define who you are at this moment. So there is no other word that can define me as me, other than the word me.

But then again, are we truly defined by our past ? We do not exist in the past, we cannot change the past in any sort of way, so is it right to be defined by something that we have no control over ?

And I do understand that me that exists at this very moment, has the ability to affect the existence of the future me, but how fair is that ?
I mean, with every single choice that was, is, or will be made, infinite numbers of future me's that could of have existed are being erased.

I don't think you got what I meant.

No one can define you except for you.

But when someone asks you a question "who you are", you're simplifying it for them so they can understand the answer.

If everyone answers the question with "I am myself". That holds no meaning to the one who asked it in the first place.

You are a human. That defines you

You are male(I think?). That defines you

You like Anime. That defines you.

Perhaps later you on you might change and so will the definitions that will accompany you.

If you couldn't be summarized by a list of definitions, then you wouldn't exist.

What you're saying is that you have an infinite number of definitions. Well yeah, everyone does. We are the total sum of every definition.

But we can still be defined or simplified.

Complex things can be simplified so that others may understand.

I am.....not myself.
I am a product of society's expectations and influence.
I will be the byproduct of the name brand university that I will be attending.
I am a result of my parent's ideals and expectations.
I am what people make me to be.
I am the result of humanity's effort and its endless struggles.
Through all of these, I have become what I am. These are the things that define who I am, what I am.
I am the reflection of my will, which is the reflection of all of the aforementioned things.

I am a person trying to exist, and trying to do something that benefits society in some way every day.
