Shanks wins this, at least against Injured WB.

Old WB vs. Shanks = Shanks High DIFF

Prime WB vs. Shanks = WB High DIFF

Can you stop wanking Shanks already? He is not stomping the current Blackbeard(I do agree that he'd beat him) and he is not beating an old Whitebeard.

Shanks beats injured WB with high difficulty.

An uninjured, old WB wins high difficulty.

Whitebeard was the strongest Yonko Pre-timeskip.

Don't see how this is relevant to the thread, and as I don't recall saying Shanks would stomp BB, I'll just say that Shanks would beat him Mid DIFF.

As for him not beating old WB: elaborate on why he wouldn't. 'Cause logic dictates he does.

Old WB had a lot of difficulties against pre TS Akainu, admittedly Akainu is far away from being a pushover but imo Shanks is stronger by a fair amount and I honestly think that Garp, Shanks and Dragon at least could take on WB, maybe also Kong and Mihawk

Shanks is imo the strongest pirate atm and will eventually be surpassed by BB and than Luffy, Roger was at the top of his generation (WB, Garp, Sengoku, Rayleigh, Don Chinjao, Shiki, ...), Shanks (if we don't count Dragon since he's a separate power alltogether) is at the top of his generation (Kaido, BM, old WB, Dofy, Mihawk, ...) but he never became the PK so it isn't as emphasized as with Roger, and Luffy will be at the top of the next generation (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Law, BB, Kidd, Coby, Smoker, ...)

being at the top probably doesn't mean completely uncontested since Roger had equals Garp and WB, than old WB and Mihawk and maybe another Yonko are close to Shanks' power and at least Zoro will be close to Luffy's power as well as probably Law, Kid and Smoker

I am curious to hear what kind of logic dictates Shanks(or dozen other people, like Alagon just said) would beat Whitebeard.

do you know what a dozen is? it's exactly 7 less than the number of people I listed and 7 is more than half of a dozen

also I already wrote why I think WB wasn't the no. 1 altough it's true that not in this thread though you posted in that one too if I remember correctly

well WB had quite a bit of trouble against Akainu, he was stronger but not by all that much. WB was old, but not just that, he was also sick. He was the man with the most power as his Gura Gura No Mi could literally erase entire islands and even the world and that is what made him most special. But power alone isn't enough to be the best, being able to destroy the world doesn't mean he can't be defeated by some of the people in One Pice world, in his prime the ones who matched him were Roger and Garp at MF when he was old and sick imo it was Dragon, Shanks, Garp and maybe Kong and Mihawk

in short, being able to destroy the world in itself isn't any help in a battle

PS I just saw you said Shanks and a dozen others so technically you meant 13 ... but still

WB had the title of the strongest man. That title doesn't mean he's the strongest when old and sick.

Shanks>Old WB High-diff
Prime WB>Shanks (Extreme-diff)

The marines had the balls to capture Ace (WB's 2nd division commander) and go to war with Whitebeard's crew and allies. Yet, Shanks walks in and everyone shits their pants. That's saying something.

Shanks losing to a washed up WB would be an insult to Luffy's goal.

People are seriously underrating this generation of pirates.

It's something I remembered seeing in Shanks vs current Blackbeard thread.

What is there to elaborate on? One was strongest man in the world, the other was not. What sort of logic says otherwise?

So what if he had alot difficulties with Akainu? The guy was stabbed in the chest by a huge sword and even though that happened, it still didn't stop Sengoku from stating that the strongest man is in the move. He was still going strong even if he took hits from Akainu, while the latter was temporary KO'd after two hits, not to mention the other damages he was suffered from prior to their fight.

That's an opinion and not a fact, and I respect that. However, Roger only had one equal when he was the Pirate King and that was Whitebeard, who became the undisputed strongest man after the death of the Pirate King. Being the Pirate King doesn't mean you're stronger than other pirates, but being the strongest man in the world does. So them being equally strong does not matter if one is the Pirate King and the other is not, especially when we know for a fact Whitebeard didn't want to conquer the Grand Line.

That's exactly what it means, since the man was introduced as such even while being in that condition.

I fail to see what you're getting at there. Two yonko would be too much for them.

It wouldn't be an insult to Luffy's goal. Shanks is one of the people he wants to surpass, not the his ultimate goal.

Luffy's goal is to become the pirate king. In order to do that he'll have to surpass Shanks and return the hat. Luffy's idol/role model/the guy he's trying to surpass being weaker then an old sick WB is an insult. WB in old age doesn't mean he's the strongest man in the world even if he still has the title.

For example, Zoro will get the title of the strongest swordsman in the world by beating the strongest swordsman. In order to do that he'd have to be a stronger swordsman then the guy with the title of the strongest swordsman.

Which means he already is the strongest swordsman even before he beats the strongest swordsman, the world just doesn't know that. Title is just a title. If Shanks engaged WB and beat him he would get the title of the strongest man in the world.

WB will keep his title until he either dies or is beaten. Shanks wasn't interested in that.

First of all Roger had at least two ppl who were somewhat equal to him WB and Garp, yes Sengoku said that the strongest man is on the move but I already explained that the steongest man can be defeated by some ppl in a 1 v 1. Yes WB was a tank but his attacks relied alsmost solely on his DF and it's strength and against some ppl that might simply not be enough as I said being able to destroy the world doesn't neccessarily help you in a one on 1 with someone like Shanks or Dragon. akainu did him in pretty well before WB stomped him and it took Aces death for him to do it.

You say thats an opinion not fact? ... Maybe you should count how many times I wrote "imo" in my post. Other than the fact that Roger had at least two "equals" it's mostly my opinion lol. Also you simply have to know by now that being the PK means that you and maybe 1 or two ppl in most part SHARE the spot of the overall most powerful individual. It's hard to say someone is the strongest (no longer talking about old WB), maybe if we did call Roger the strongest that could easily mean he would lose to WB 4 out of 10 times

I was in hurry but you still get the point. One person being stronger than the undisputed strongest man is ridiculous enough. Whitebeard didn't become the strongest because he can destroy the world, but because he was the only man strong enough to match the pirate king. Garp is plently strong, but not strong enough to match prime Roger and prime WB. We know this because after the late pirate king's death there was only one undisputed strongest man. Is this concept difficult to grasp? Roger and Whitebeard were equals, therefore nobody had that title. Roger dies, and WB is the strongest man now. The man remained as such even at a weakened state because he was introduced as such by the narrator himself.

Whitebeard wasn't the strongest man of all time/the strongest man that has ever lived and the same goes for Mihawk. He held the title for over two decades and none of the people that are in their prime have managed to become stronger than him. We know this because Oda chose to introduce us to Whitebeard as the strongest man, while he was hooked up to IVs. It's not an insult because you say so. Shanks is not the Pirate King and him being weaker than Whitebeard is perfectly fine. Shanks did after all sacrifice an arm for the sake of the next generation.

Mihawk will be surpassed by someone who is still growing and someone we know will be stronger than him for a fact. He's not going down against someone we came to find out was weaker than Mihawk at his prime.

Just because Shanks was not interested in becoming the strongest man it doesn't mean he was the stronger than Whitebeard. If you're going to play that card, you might as well say that one of the Gorosei, Kong, Dragon were stronger than Whitebeard even though they were not interested in such title. Someone like Rayleigh that went under could also have been both the strongest man and the strongest swordsman too.

Fujitora pretty much answered this post. We find out by Buggy that the only man to ever match the Pirate King is Whitebeard. We also find out that the said man became the strongest man after Roger's death. This means that Garp was not able to keep up with Roger and Whitebeard and the two of them distanced themselves from everyone. You can have 10000 equals if you are the Pirate King, same goes for the yonko and shichibukai. Titles such as the strongest creature, man, swordsman mean exactly that.
