First off, the guy is handcuffed. But that's not the point.
The terminology "white privilege" is grossly over exaggerated and I don't mean it in the sense that it doesn't exist. Because it does. It's just the way the media decides to perpetuate murderous incidents; it's always to stir up controversy because controversy sells and gets more views. Getting more views gets people talking, and more people talking means even more views than before. Kim Kardashian's CONTROVERSIAL *** tape is essentially the reasons she's famous at all. Because I'm pretty sure it's clear that she doesn't have any noticeable talent. But anyways, a poster on the previous page (CrazyTheorist) said it best, but I'll try my best to present my thoughts in a manner that's easy to understand.
I don't think these cases are ever a matter purely of white privilege. Just 3 days ago, I was in a parking lot at 12:30 in the morning with a bunch of black and white people (and some middle eastern as well) literally just kicking a ball around. Some cops came around and were looking for a sixteen year old black kid. Now at first your initial thought is "what did he do?". But we later found out that he was missing since the school day ended and his mother called the police to look for him. There's also another point to this. One of the black guys we were with literally told the cop (for whatever reason) that he sells Marijuana. The cop did nothing. He actually laughed it off, and after talking to him for like another 20 minutes, he ended up leaving. Granted, I live in Canada and the cultural perceptions here aren't anywhere near as bad as America, but I thought it would be a good example.
I firmly believe that beyond the case of white privilege, there is a certain amount of personal ignorance and mental conditioning that the masses of every population go through, before they believe such stupidity about each "race". For one, the community you grow up in hugely changes your perception on things you will encounter later in life. If you're in a deadbeat neighbourhood with a high crime rate, you're going to view whatever dominant ethnicity of that area as a threat, whenever the hell you decide to move on from that area for pastures greater. Likewise (and this applies to me), if you live in an area with a lot of cultural diversity, your perception of different ethnic backgrounds is far more extensive and greater than someone who was segregated and "conditioned" to think in such a narrow way. Not to mention that CrazyTheorist is absolutely spot on in his initial assessment. Blacks got out of slavery not long ago from a historical standpoint, and some are still recovering to build up any financial substance (and I mean the black people who are indigenous to America). Whites have had 100's of years after they took the land of North America from the native Americans, and they're the overwhelming majority in the US. The majority represents the "controlling power" for lack of a better word. All of this would come back to politics in one way or another, but that's not the point. Is it any coincidence that most black families that are well off usually come from other areas (like Africa, the Dominican, Haiti etc.)? Recovering from slavery will still take time for families who actually have roots in America dating back to the times of slavery. But it will change sooner or later. But this mental conditioning that makes the youth of today from all ethnicities believe that they have to act a certain way needs to stop.
Beyond that, I still don't understand how racism is fundamentally even a thing. But that may just be me. Biologically, there isn't enough genetic variation between each ethnicity (Blacks, Whites, Asians etc.) to actually distinguish different races from one another (literally it's less than 0.1 percent variation). We're all human. And the sooner we accept that, the closer we'll be to some kind of peaceful coexistence.
