Like someone said, not everyone is a member of a clan. Gai, Kakashi, Kurenai, Sakura, none of them are in a clan. They're just regular ninja who've trained and become powerful. Even the Sannin were clanless, yet they're some of the most powerful ninja the world has ever seen.

Not necessarily true. I'm sure people are thinking of non-Kekkei Genkai clan abilities as well. ex, Aburame, Nara, Yamanaka, etc
