With Nagato and Naruto both being the Chosen Ones (confirmed by the Great Toad Sage in ch. 444), I am wondering what role did Nagato have in being a Chosen One. Chapter 572 shows Naruto was the 1 that would lead the Bijuu down the right path.

In other words, while Naruto is the more important Child of Prophecy, where does Nagato fit in with this?

You need balance. Yahiko and Nagato did great, but when Yahiko was gone the balance stopped and Nagato twisted Yahiko's ideals. I think Nagato fits on the side with Madara, Danzo, and Obito. Good intentions, but bad methods.

Nagato helped guide Naruto on the correct path. Not much else to say; Naruto solidified his promise to bring peace after he spoke with Nagato. It gave Naruto a greater understanding of what it means to be savior/Hokage.

Kuchiyose: Gedō Mazō's Naruto Wiki entry mentions that "s with many of Nagato's techniques, it is influenced by Buddhist terminology. Gedō (外道; Literally meaning "Outer Path"), derived from the Sanskrit Tīrthika, refers to any doctrine which "treads the outer path" to enlightenment. This is opposed to the teachings of orthodox Buddhism, the Naidō (内道; Literally meaning "Inner Path"), and is thus considered misguided and heretical."

I think that the moment Yahiko, Nagato stepped out of the Naidō and into the Gedō (as evidenced the below picture

).

That is, the despair of involuntarily killing his best friend drove him to shun seeking salvation and imposing damnation.

Nagato was the destroyer and Naruto was the savior, there were two ways that could have ended based on Jiraya's decision.

If Jiraya had given up then Nagato would have won.

The confrontation between Nagato and Naruto forced Naruto to confront his own desire for revenge. It strengthened Naruto's resolve and allowed Nagato to redeem himself.

Jiraiya was never supposed to be the "child of phophecy" I believe the elder toad said he had a vision that a boy would one day stumble upon Myobuki.(jiraiya) pretty sure it was later on the toad had another vision about a child that Jiraiya would teach. That is the child of phophecy,(Naruto) not Jiraiya.

Nagato was the destroyer and Naruto was the savior, there were two ways that could have ended based on Jiraya's decision.

Read this thread,

it's all described here. It seems there are 6 individuals of great importance and Nagato is one of them.

My guess is that Jiraya was the boy of prophecy, everyone else is the path that began on him and for him.
I like the concept that Kishi gave to prophecies.
