Which video editing software and techniques you use to make good AMV ?

I just want to make my first AMV and I have used Sony Vegas for quiet a lot mainly for making tutorials and stuff so basic usage as you can tell. I have three questions regarding creation of good AMV:

A) Which video editing software do you use ?
I know there is Sony Vegas (which I prefer to use as I'm familiar with it), Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Effects and GIMP (but I don't know why people use it for in AMV lol).

B) Which Techniques should I use ?
I want finally start making my first AMV and yes I already prepared for it as I have chosen which anime I will use as well as song. The only think left before I move to technical part is which techniques I should use to make very dark, bloody and good AMV ?

C) Can you recommend some tutorials ?
Can you recommend some tutorials which could get me started with this process if you have any ? It could be either on YouTube, some forum etc.

Sony Vegas is a consumer level Pro software. It is what I used before I came to college...My major is Video Production. I use Final Cut Pro X here is an example of something I made in Sony Vegas pro 8

I don't make AMV's I only make vids for myself, don't upload them, but don't buy PowerDirector, at least not number 9, the newer ones might be better, I bought this on a whim and wish I had bought the newer one, the old ones were great but this one is giving me nothing but heartache right now, sony vegas is great if you are into rocket science.

hmm I must admit that this video looks better than the previous one. I will look more around FCPX.

Thanks guys for suggestions. As FCPX looks epic and is more easier it still doesn't support AVI, RMVB so for this reason this program is out for me. Is there someone else who would like share their suggestions with us ?
