On the other hand, they were realist. If anyone's insane, it's Naruto and Hashirama, who believes that love and friendship is the way of peace. That philosophy will always fail due to people having different opinions. Not all minds think alike. And those different opinions causes conflict and conflict starts wars.

Madara, Itachi, and Sasuke were plain realist, who knew what needed to be done. But they were defeated by plot so Kishimoto could establish Naruto's childish peace goals in the end while being under the delusion that supporting the same system that ignited hatred and pain within people would be the way to go.

Madara was insane. As soon as he was resurrected he spoke about the pleasure the feeling of bones breaking between his fingers with a twisted grin and glee.
