Well there a point that he could not have moved. It was obvious that he had to protect the girls since Shin was attacking him. At the same time he needed to capture Shin. So he had to defeat Shin w/o moving. He used the proportionate and appropriate response. Had he been alone, he may have used only MS. However notice he dis not go whatever hybrid KCM mode he went to before Shin activated MS. So when you are threatened you consider APPROPRIATE response.

Sword does not NEED to be there. He can activate Rinnegan and EMS and NOT raise the sword. Then he can ask the question. If he gets an answer, fine. If the person attacks him, he already has his eye activated, so he can attack or defend. Either way this would be much less intimidating to a child yelling Papa.

I agree.Had Naruto been alone he would have fought Shin probably in base mode.However Sasuke had already fought him and therefore decided to be on his guard,Even Naruto said his shadow clones wont be enough to keep the girls safe.Therefore its clear Naruto and Sasuke were taking this unknown threat seriously even after fighting (I know its a nerf)
