Heh, Torune at least got a filler episode (even though I have some major problems with it). Fuu was just sacrificed and mostly forgotten :|

Oh, I loved it, too. But it had some technical issues, so to say: for example, how were Torune's nanobugs alive, exactly? They should have died with him, since they are separate living organisms, they wouldn't be Edo Tensei'd with him just like that. Another problem was the usage of their names. The databook made these canon, but it's been stated before that Root members used codenames, in fact, they used a new codename for every new mission (that was stated with Sai). Thirdly, whatever happened to Root's brainwashing/emotion killing/killing team mates? How come Torune was pretty much a normal person and allowed to be friends with Fuu? Sai was brainwashed to the point of forgetting what feelings and comrades were, despite all the time spent with his "brother", yet Torune still remembered Shino, was happy to see him etc.

In other words, it sort of contradicted many things we've learned about Root during Sai's arc. And the bugs issue. But ignoring all that, the episode was great

Ah yes, the filler treatment. Definitely different studio technicalities, got it. If you squint though it's still a pretty fun episode I love the Shino, Torune link.

Yeah, Shino and Torune's shared past was "canonized" by the databook, and so was friendship between Fuu and Torune. Though I suppose it was just because Kishi was too lazy to come up with the backstory himself. I'm still a bit irked by it since I imagined them to be more of emotionless human weapons. Not sure why, but characters like that fascinate me.

My favorite part of that filler was undoubtedly the flashback with kids Fuu and Torune.

Though I suppose it was just because Kishi was too lazy to come up with the backstory himself. I'm still a bit irked by it since I imagined them to be more of emotionless human weapons. Not sure why, but characters like that fascinate me.

I'd imagine that emotionless tools can still share mutual respect! Like it doesn't have to be absolute affection, it's a strategic relationship. They know the other is strong and compliments their fighting style. Working well together and having that cold respect can be a friendship without any actual gooey feelings involved haha

Well, I believed it was something like that at first, but I still accepted them having a friendly bond after the databook came out. It says that they've been through "good and bad times" together and are bound by "absolute trust", so I ended up believing that they were able to grow close despite Root teachings, simply due to circumstances (having to rely on each other, protect each other etc).
