So I am planning to purchase a graphic card for my old desktop, computer parts here in my country are very pricey and it is hard to find the one you are looking for. During my research, I came to find that these two appealing graphic cards but could not take a decision. So I hope I can get some suggestions and guidelines on here.

The first one is Asus GT 520 Silent. ($102) It's specs are here.

Second one is MSI N430GT. ($120) It's specs are here.

I know GTX series are better but like I said, it is really hard to find that one and is really pricey. These two are the only good options out there. Now the MSI one looks cool and has 2GB DDR3 memory. Its memory interface is 128bits.

The Asus one do not have the cooling fan and has 1GB DDR3 memory with memory interface 64bits. But this one is the latest series as compared to the MSI one.

So which one should I purchase?

I think Asus could be the right choice cause it's newer. But I am in dilemma. Want your suggestion guys!! When answering do give me reasons, ok :)

Well, honestly both are garbage lol.
I'd go with the 520, the reasons are: 1) the 500 series has more optimized architecture and consumes less power than the 400 series.
2) Driver support for 500 series is going to last for another 2-3 years. That won't be happening for the 400 series.
3) even though the 430 has 1 more Gig, the RAM used in the 500 series uses faster GDDR5 chips, and the memory bus controller on the 520 is better over all.

why don't you try purchasing these things online??
I would but you see, in my country purchasing an item online would cost three times the amount. The shipping charge, government tax and other unnecessarily charges would rise the cost to up to three times.

What is the primary use of the computer? Gaming, 3D graphics/animation, 2D graphics/animation, basic desktop, etc.?
well....I do use that desktop for gaming sometime...but for graphic designing and gaming, my new PC is good. So you can say I want the graphic card for gaming.

Well I think MSI one is the better choice cause I read the reviews and ratings. Also in tomshardware forum, they suggest me to get the MSI one.

Well, first of all don't let the number of the series deceive you, a gt430 it's a hundred times better than a gt520, the main issue here its in the '30' vs '20' part. that last number indicates that one graphic card is better than other. Also you have twice the bandwidth, 128 bits should run every game on medium settings, that '2gb gddr' its just showing off, there's no game able of actually using that much graphic memory, not even an entire gb. And last but not least the cooler issue, that indicates that the 430 has a bigger performance and that's why it goes hotter and needs a fan. the 520 its a modem, pure garbage. You can check on Google something amazing: the gt 220 is better than the gt 520. So buy the MSI and enjoy....well, at least try!
