See, naruto beats One Piece in popularity, but is wrecked when it comes to ratings. Rating is what determines if an anime is good or not. Not popularity.
Say 1 000 000 watch Naruto, and only 200 000 of them think it deserves 5 stars, while the rest think it only deserves 3 and 4 stars. And there are 800 000 watching One Piece and 600 000 of them thinks it deserves 5 stars and the rest thinks it deserves 3 and 4 stars.
See what i'm saying?

Just look at the statistics I've posted.
91,370 members on One Piece and 14,441 favorites.
118,653 members on Naruto but only 9,684 favorites.

And thats why popularity doesn't matter as much as ratings.

I have read and watched all the famous mangas and animes .First of all when i was in my college started following inu yasha ,then naruto , followed by bleach ,then full metal alchemist ,fairy tail and recently ended with one piece .

For me one piece had been more of a hit compared to naruto.
About Naruto
Naruto is good but for the past two years the great ninja war arc has not done anything to improve the story.The fight looked lame except certain ones .No konoha 11 characters where given any character development wheras some random characters from the lightning village got more screenplays . Most of all, naruto has become very predictable .With all that said Kishi has failed to deliver to his fans what was expected out of him.

About one piece :
started very recently i.e 2 years ago and I should say I literally fell in love with every character when i reached the albasta arc..the best part is the Anime would make us laugh like anything .It has a more deep storyline,better character development (every character gets a dedicated arc for them ),better fights ,better comedy and over all unpredictable plot line .kudos and hats off to ODA .People who say Naruto is much better ,kindly follow one piece before you claim something like that .I was a naruto and am still a naruto fan myself but the way kishi messed up with the ninja war arc ,i would say one piece is the best .
