Yeah, so I've almost completely finished laying out the chapter-by-chapter plot for this story I'm trying to write. The only conflict I still have is in regards to its ending. I'll give a brief synopsis to give you some understanding:
Girl (popular) and Boy (reclusive) discover a portal to a hidden world, a perfect paradise without human or animal life of any kind. They spend most of their childhood playing there, then the girl moves when they're sixteen. She leaves him with a kiss, but he can't tell her he loves her before she leaves. Nine years later, Girl has a fiancé and they travel to her hometown for a week. She meets back up with Boy, who now virtually lives in the hidden world. As the week closes out, she start wishing she could stay, but doesn't wanna leave her fiancé. Meanwhile, they both start redevelop feelings for each other. Her parents eventually ask to have wedding there and Fiancé agrees, but he's started wondering who Boy is she keeps going off to see. Eventually, he finds them in the hidden world, which he is shocked to find out about. He starts understanding why she wants to stay so much, but Boy suddenly gags him before they can leave, afraid he'll tell others of its location. He reveals he's been murdering anyone who managed to find the hidden world during the nine years they've been separated (including both one of his old friends and one of hers) for fear that they'll reveal its existence and subject it to the same pollution and defilement Earth has suffered, a sentiment Girl shared. Still, she's terrified of him for his horrible acts and runs away, but he loves her and can't bring himself to kill her even if she reveals its existence. In the end, she still wants to protect the world and returns to help her fiancé alone. She eventually convinces Boy to spare him, but there's no getting past his crimes, which police are still looking for an answer to. He decides to both punish himself and protect the hidden world alone and asks them to seal the portal by covering it with a large rock once they leave, ensuring both of them will keep it secret before letting them go. Fiancé walks through first, leaving the two alone. They say their tearful goodbyes and she leaves him with a kiss, just as she did nine years ago.
Here's where the conflict comes in. She's completely torn because she now knows that she loves him, too, and I've got it set up to where her fiancé recognizes her feelings and gives her the opportunity to stay with him, even though it means being cut off from the outside world, possibly forever. Originally, I had her choose to stay with her fiancé (which is really more logical) but my personal tastes make that hard for me to settle with. So, I'll hear your opinions on the matter first.
