The first circle, hanging out with Socrates, Virgil, Archimedes, and other people who haven't done any sins described in the other circles of hell, as well as doing honorable acts.

Lol, I'm studying this in my English class. Circle 8, Bolgia 9 sounds the worst.

Here's a summary if you're brave enough to read it:

The devil harasses the members of this hell by stabbing them as they come near him, which splits them in half. Each member is mutilated based on the intensity of their sin. This circle is consistent with Dante's idea that ripping apart a community is worse than ripping apart faith

First Level of Hell - Limbo
Charon ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.

So I think it's because I put down "Yeah, I figure I might continue to do the same things I'm guilty of doing, cause I don't know what the future brings" and "I'm too much of a heretic to be in Purgatory".

Never did agree with the order of the circles. Like, you can be a glutton, lustful, jealous, wily person, but don't believe in God? That puts you three levels above Satan himself, my friend.

As long as I'm an honorable man, I think I'll do just fine in Level 1 of Hell :lol Hell, I could spend the next quadrillion years talking to Aristotle of the advances in technology.

It's not just, like, ascending order. Specific crimes can get you very high on a level higher than what you got low on and vice versa.
