Boromir: of the two, he's the more complex character with dark but understandable motivation and is one Tolkien's few anti-heroes.

Captain of the Ithilian Rangers: Faramir by far
He was smart, loyal, badass, and had a heart that beat the ring!
That being said, Boromir was a good man, and his fate showed it as well as his history in Gondor.

Faramir by far.
He's had to overcome a lot, and he also saw the big picture. All Boromir cared about was what was best for Gondor and the race of Man.
Of course faramir was seeking his fathers affection which is natural, but he could look outside of himself and his race.
Boromir went out like a boos though.
