How is it a bad example? Why wluld Drsgon want to risk people like Akainu trying to kill Luffy when he is a kid and has no way of defending himself? Not being around Luffy was a good choice or else Luffy would have been killed.

It makes snese. And the element of "yesterday's ally might become tomorrow's enemy" has been used in the manga. So Lola wouldn't know to whom she's gonna side if that's gonna happen. Though someone like Oda knows how we think, he sometimes comes up with an opposite idea of what we think will happen.
