He's most likely being assigned other tasks such as possibly finding where Kabuto was (save Yamato), or still partially recovering from having just been poisoned. Sure he can combat fodder Zetsu, but he likely is weakened still.

His job was just watching Deidara so it seems fairly clear he wasn't in the way of fighting.

That's exactly what I've been wondering for so long now! Did Kishimoto get amnesia and just forget about him or something? He can't be dead because 1) his predecessor passed the torch to him, 2) his death would do nothing to impact the story because (sadly) he isn't important enough, and 3) it would have been stated many chapters ago. Now I don't know how helpful he would be at this point in the manga, but C'MON Kishimoto!! You could at the very least give him some panel time!

I'd like to believe what the previous poster said was true and that he has some other assignment. Seriously, he's my favorite character and the fact that he's not being shown is kinda ruining my enjoyment of the manga!
