My guess would be that it comes from gaming. Like soloing a boss, instance, or raid (in MMORPG). It's a quick way of saying that someone is strong enough to manage on their own.

back in the day "Itachi Solos" was a famous phrase. He was such a magnificent character people started worshipping him and he soloed many character but then he became irrelevant and every relevant character reached the soloing level.

Well... I remember using the term when talking to my old neighbour after soloing some monster on Monster Hunter. Lol It's a wide term used in gaming -Soloing a level, boss, whatever- which I guess was ported widely.
