Naruto has the worldwide popularity over all the other manga.

That is a very shitty way to measure anything, let alone popularity. You know now how many times the following combination of words has been googled (manga name) + sales. 1) you don't know actual sales and 2) of course the western world will type naruto sales but how do you think Japanese people google it ?

Japanese manga market is like 99% of the entire world's manga market. It really doesn't matter much who sells most in Europe or the US that is just peanuts.

Naruto is 'more popular' in the west but does that really matter when One Piece is in a league on its own in the country of manga and anime?

It seems, you've not actually got insight into what I wrote.
Sales have nothing to do with the worldwide interest in different types of things, would they be books, movies or mangas.
One Piece has higher sales and nobody denies that, but what Naruto has is the interest of the world population in it, measuring its own popularity. Naruto is leagues ahead of any other animes/mangas when it comes to how many people are interested in its content, Google it weekly, daily, hourly.
The average interest in Naruto in the world, throughout its running, measured by Google itself, is higher than the interest in Harry Potter, The LOTR, The GoT and many other popular works of fiction.
I don't know what your measure for the 'Big' series is, but for me, the unquenchable worldwide interest in Naruto, over the 17 years of its running, surely says a thing or two. ~

There is only one reason why Naruto is no 1 in the US (etc) and not OP or HxH or ..., it's the fact that the average fan here only knows Bleach, Naruto and DBZ (and now AOT) so by default one of them will occupy the no. 1 spot, if the average western fan knew as much about manga as an average Japanese fan Naruto's rank would tank

The era of horrible English dub of One Piece is long over. It's freaking 2014 and believe me, today, 9 out of 10 average western anime/manga fans who have an internet connection in their houses, have at least heard of One Piece.
The difference is still big, even while comparing the results from the month of June, 2014 alone.
You can completely omit US and Europe from the Google Trends diagram and compare the results from only Asia and Africa, Naruto will still have a higher 'interest score'.
And regarding the overall western manga sales being low, the reason for that is simple: online providers of manga scans (Panda and Sream currently). I'm pretty sure, that if those scanlators stopped posting the manga scans weekly, all the millions of fans, those who wake up early in the mornings on Wednesdays just to read Naruto, would go crazy, buying all the available English volumes, hence increasing the western sales rates and the overall market share.
All in all, I don't see why this current conditions makes you (One Piece fans) mad, as we (Naruto fans) acknowledge the fact, that One Piece sells way more than Naruto. You've got the sales, we've got the popularity.
