Where did the Itachi vs Minato debates even come from?

^^^This. I can understand Naruto vs Sasuke debates. They are the main characters and rivals after all. I can understand stuff like Madara vs Obito or Hiruzen vs Orochimaru (or any matchup between characters with some kind of connection). Minato vs Itachi just seems kind of random though. These two characters have no connection whatsoever (besides the fact that Kushina and Mikoto were friends). The only possible rationale I could think of is that they both died for their son or brother. Other than that I see no connection.

Where did this come from?

I asked this question once. The answer I got is that since they are both extremely popular characters, their fans just happened to go head to head with each other and once the argument started, it pissed off fanboys and basically snowballed from there.

It's because of the parallels in the manga. Naruto is to Minato as Sasuke is to Itachi.

EX: Senseis...Naruto had Jiraiya. Sasuke had Orochimaru. So Jiraiya vs Orochimaru formed.

Giving powers/having a large impact while being absent...Naruto had Minato. Sasuke had Itachi. Minato and Itachi were both absent for the majority of Naruto's/Sasuke's lives and instead helped behind the scenes. They gave up alot so that their loved ones would have better lives. They gave them the major powerups that they use, Minato gave Naruto Kurama and he centers his techniques around that. Itachi gave Sasuke MS and later EMS & he centers his attacks around that. So, because they were paralleled in the manga, Itachi vs Minato formed.

Every popular fanbase needs a rival. But I recall seeing Minato vs Itachi in battledome all the time and it got heated. Soon, the two groups began to hate each other at some point. Plus Minato is to Naruto what Itachi is to Sasuke. So it makes sense.

There are 2 clusters in naruto. People who like uchihas (usually horrible people in my experience) and people who like IOTWOF (inheritors of the will of fire: hiruzen, hashi, naruto, minato, jiraiya, etc, etc). they also can be douches but seem to troll a LOT less. Anyway it started because itachi is the skillfull tactical one of the uchihas (not a monster like madara), and minato is the tactical skillfull iotof (not a powerhouse like jiraiya, naruto, hashi, or hiruzen)

Itachi and Minato are similar in that, for the majority of the manga, each was presented as virtually infallible. They possessed seemingly infinite wisdom and experience, and battles against either tended to end so quickly that the impression was "this character is untouchable." Kishi likes to hype "geniuses" and these two character were Supreme in that category.

The reason for the hype was to present these godly "end goals" for Naruto/Sasuke. Note that, now that Naruto has surpassed Minato, the hype is dying, both in the manga and among fans. Itachi managed to exit the manga before Sasuke revealed his full power.

For starters, these two are perhaps the most gifted / natural geniuses that were introduced in the manga.

They reached a power level in a somewhat legit way compared to the ones who are ranked higher than them;

Obito is stronger but is an Uchiha and was given Senju DNA,
Madara is stronger but also was given EMS by his brother
Sasuke is an Uchiha + has now achieved EMS
Naruto is an Uzumaki and was given Kyuubi
Nagato is an Uzumaki + was given the Rinnegan
Kabuto took many powers from different people and thus became overpowered

Hashirama is the ONLY one who is stronger than them and apparently got that stong from having ''senju' lineage

Itachi was an Uchiha but it stopped there, he didnt get Senju DNA, a Bijuu or anything of the sort
Minato doesnt have any bloodline but he did build his arsenal arround Tobirama's technique, but it still takes skills to achieve such perfection

Like i said, they reached such power level without getting gifts / power ups like the ones who are considered stronger than them (except Hashirama), they took what their had to a whole other level because of their umatched genius skills.



Outside of their skills and power, they are put against each other because of how much alike they are.

They both gave away their life for them, they both gave them power ups and pretty much ''decided'' Sasuke and Naruto's lives with the sacrifice they made.

Itachi is responsible for making sure Sasuke would exploit his full potential, thus leading to him having the mangekyo, and in the end gave him his own MS to achieve EMS

Minato sealed Kyuubi which powered up Naruto since forever in terms of chakra and power, and Kushina ensured that Naruto would take that power to the next level when she helped him in the tug of war.




They played the same role
THey are imo equally strong

THey were both extremely selfless and humble, to the point its annoying to see how harsh they can be on themselves despite everything they have achieved when reality litteraly shitted on them at such a young age

No other being in this manga can be considered to be as flawless as them, they arent the strongest ones, but given the circumstances and the limits they had to face, no one would have been imo. able to achieve such heights as these two did in their lives.
