If it was Byakugan then why didnt the Hyuga clan upgrade their eyes?

Byakugan also evolved from rinnegan. The sage's son's eyes were a little whirlpool pattern, with white background.

So there must be two descendant of this son, one whose eyes became byakugan, and whirlpool pattern disappeared, and another whose the whirlpool pattern remained and the eye became red and more troublesome, the sharingan.

The Uchiha and the Hyuuga probably have a relationship like the Senju and the Uzumaki clans.

The two sons of Rikudo Sennin weren't directly the Uchiha and the Senju. The Uchiha and the Senju were the descendants of these sons, many generations down the line. So it's possible that during that time, the bloodline who harnessed the eyes and chakra of the sage thinned, branched and mutated.

I say both the sharingan and byakugan descended from the rinnegan or more specifically from the older brother who inherited some form of the SoT6P dojutsu

I say the dojutsu mutated among two different lines among the descendants of the older borther...one eventually became the sharing and the other the byakugan..
