Itachi won 2 fights deemed un winnable...

Kabuto vs Itachi and Sasuke. Due to that situation and environment you needed someone that was "invincible" to beat Kabuto thus Itachi was sent.

Pain was unbeatable thus the only way to beat him is send someoen that was invincible (Itachi)

Itachi 1 shot nagato.

Thus Manga and Databook proven invinciblity
