The way the manga is going if gai went 8 gates he wouldnt die, thats how ridiculous the manga is atm. Gai and kakashi are supposed to be rivals but currently kishi is going against everything in order for team kakashi to prevail against tobi. Alot of people keep mentioning kakashi's recent kamui feat however we should go back to the basics. kakashi shouldve run out of chakra along time ago simply by not covering his eye all this time. He has fought the swordsmen, zetsu and tobi's paths whilst not covering his sharingan. That is something kakashi shouldnt be able to do. His stamina shouldve have gone by this alone, how this hasnt happened is beyond me. He has then used kamui 3 or 4 times which is ridiculous, even if he starts with kamui from the beginning of his fights he cannot use it 3/4 times.

When he has kept the sharingan on against previous foes constantly its absurd. What has added to this nonsense is that apart from chakra drainage the other side effects arent visible such as lack of speed. Current kakshi doesnt need to cover his sharingan eye out of battle anymore because with his recent feats, he can keep it active like itachi out of battle. You can say kakashi si either secretly an uchiha or his stamina rivals naruto to even perhaps learn sm.

If gai is supposed to be kakashi's rival, what is stopping gai from going 8 gates and not dying. After all kishi has made kakashi limitless recently, perhaps its gai's turn to go against the manga
