When Gaara became Kazekage

Did anyone notice how long it took the Sand to have a new Kazekage? They lost theirs when orochimaru killed Gaaras dad which was when naruto was 12-13. We find out Gaara becomes kazekage in the beginning of shipuuden when naruto is 16. It took them about 3-4 years to elect a new kazekage. I though electing a new kage is always top priority.

Well it would have taken a while for Gaara to get everyone in the village to acknowledge him to start. At that time he was still hated and feared by the people in the village.

Plus there was probably no one suitable to be Kazekage, other than Gaara that is.

when naruto returned gaara was already kazekage

so no one can say that how much time it took

It is in times of danger with Konoha but the sand's policy may be different. They seem to rely on their elders and advisors more than Konoha does so they may have ran the village for some time.

Keep in mind a main reason Gaara became kazekage was to get him to control Shukaku better so they may have waited for him to become stronger and begin to let Shukaku's influence fade.

Haha never thought of that, i know sunagakure has village elders as well like Chiyo but they seemed to be in retirement of sorts, yknow aside from fighting akatsuki on the front lines for some reason

Yea i know it would have took a while but its like the kage is the leader of the village so why wait for Gaara? But then again he is the strongest in the sand village...soo,,,
