When exactly did kisame died?

I wasn't paying attention on naruto by the time so i'm a little bit confused. Did he died when bee and A took his head off or when the sharks ate him? Cause he had samehada at that time, and he lost it after fighting bee if i'm correct. Ehhh... Someone enlighten me with some information about this, please.
