His clone gathered Nature Chakra in the background as others were trying to hold 3rd off. Even he said "almost done" to Gaara(not sure if it was Gaara tho) or something like that.

Jiraiya entered SM instantly after he summoned Ma and Pa (who were gathering the chakra for him) aswell.

seems like, its quite impressive now that i think about it, i thought it was a little lack luster in a pressed battle situation when all he could do was achieve sage mode in a set period of time standing still or so i assumed, but now i see his nature chakra control/absorption is pretty legit
