Thought for a second the title said 'What's your thoughts on YouTube Rewind'...was already cracking my knuckles to beat a dead horse a bit more.
Well, like with most other 'solutions' that are implemented to regulate the internet, it feels like moping the floor while the tap keeps running as we say. They can still see comments on other YT-videos and still comment themselves. It would be rather naive to think that underage members can't be as toxic as grown-up ones and faking your age isn't anything new either.
lol. I find the whole rewind video controversy hilarious. No one can please everyone.
Recently YouTube removed comment section on underage youtubers specifically kids to crack down on predatory behavior and stop inappropriate comments targeted at them.
Seems youtubers are now getting penalized for what commenters say. Thoughts?
Also anyone else YouTube recommended feed giving you super random suggestions lately?
Let's see what their reasoning and exact policy is:
"
Over the past week, we disabled comments from tens of millions of videos that could be subject to predatory behavior. These efforts are focused on videos featuring young minors and we will continue to identify videos at risk over the next few months. Over the next few months, we will be broadening this action to suspend comments on videos featuring young minors and videos featuring older minors that could be at risk of attracting predatory behavior. A small number of creators will be able to keep comments enabled on these types of videos. These channels will be required to actively moderate their comments, beyond just using our moderation tools, and demonstrate a low risk of predatory behavior. We will work with them directly and our goal is to grow this number over time as our ability to catch violative comments continues to improve. "

Here is another article from 2017:
"
According to

, YouTube said it has deactivated 150,000 videos featuring children because their comments sections had been overrun with pedophiles.
Further, the company says it has disabled comments on an additional 625,000 videos for the same reasons. In an effort to avoid repeat offenders, it has also terminated the accounts of several hundred accounts that posted "predatory comments on videos featuring minors."

I don't have any opinion yet. I just read it for the first time and don't know exactly how is it playing out or will be end.
Edit: Found a 2019 video being blamed for this step by some others and the guy was getting hate already. Not sure if the haters were made for creator's sake or possibility of no more panty shots from young girls. :|
But, since in the article about youtube disabling comments is from 2017 it was already in plans and ongoing. A 2019 youtube can be hardly accused of affecting the decision. Just the usual youtuber drama accusing each other to gain footage with no real cause. That's the impression I got.
Parents should be keeping an eye on what kids are uploading in the first place. Not sure what else can be done.
