Ever heard of the Human race?
The "Race" part of the phrase is used in a more generic sense rather then a scientific one, so it's referring to a group or variety of. So even though technically the phrase is a completely incorrect term and makes no sense, people use it as a mark of unity to show that they're above racism.

Best thing about it was in high school I got along fine with the black, white and Spanish kids lol. Most peeps these days especially in the u.s. are so mixed and don't even know it. were all human IMO that all that matters

Human, because it's thinking that your race is the same thing as your ethnicity which promotes hateful people. It is the reason racism survives.

Do you run track? That's pretty good!

On topic, I'm white. I don't like racial or ethnic identifiers though. We acknowledge them, and that's why racism is still an issue. If we really believed people were people no matter what, we would try to be color blind. (metaphorically, of course.)
