When it comes to Naruto, what character element is the most important to you?

I look over my favourites and it really comes down to a mix of attitude/mannerisms and design. (Suigetsu, Kabuto, Yagura etc)

Good question; Choosing three out of my top five favorites... Kisame, Orochimaru, Kabuto.. I'd say the most important thing is attitude/how they act. Each character has an alluring and attractive personality that draws me to them. Another biggie is how they look. Won't lie, I'm drawn to those who are less then normal looking,

The way the fight, and relationship with others comes a bit later.. But another thing I do look at.

I like Naruto's simplicity. It's also why I like Luffy so much. I also think Kakashi's cool head, just makes him seem in charge all the time, regardless of who else outranks him.

Good question, should get some interesting answers.

I can totally relate. We're the same except rather than unusual looking characters i'm more for the smirking, obsessive, sly alternative type (Deidara, Kabuto, Suigetsu yknow)

Gotta love a bit of Kisame though.

Nice thread .

@OT : On a character , firstly , I notice how they act (eg: badass like Obito for example ) , then it comes the personallity , backstory and the design . Obito is a perfect example .

And I never like any character who is very strong , but his personallity is crap . Like Madara for example .

I like Obito and Kisame the most. Backstory is the most important to me, because it makes them who they are. Thats the reason why I like Obito and Kisame.

As AncientCenturian said above I'll choose 3 of my favorites

Hiruzen: Hiruzen is unique and as powerful as he is he has no KKG, he's old fashioned.

Sasuke: Calm collected cool and determined.

Itachi: Calm, collected and cool as well as analytical and intellectual.

All 3 are strong, maintain a firm appearance and are powerful.

I don't think my faves have anything in common. I mean, I like many different characters for different reasons. Some are epic, some are funny, some are crazy.. and also funny, and some I can relate to. There are some character designs that I like but that's usually not enough for me to make that character my fave.

And I only have Danzo's dog Fu as my #1 fave because of my own headcanon which involved Root in general. I gave them depth, I ended up liking him the most, so basically I'm liking my own character based on him

Flaws and imperfections. This is mostly the reason why I rarely gravitate towards the main protagonist and a lot of the villains in fiction. A lot of them just don't have any flaws. They don't have those issues and they aren't polarizing. For me that's not very relatable. You can be toughest, most badass guy out there... If there isn't anything underneath that, I'm out.

And flaws/imperfections go beyond "weird/annoying" tendencies. Like, if a character tends to have a scratchy voice, that isn't a good imperfection for me. Not deep enough or enjoyable enough for me.

And imperfection is Naruto's rhetoric and way of saving Sausage. That's a mentality that can be viewed as harmful. Watching a character go beyond shackles that would be questionable to some is infinitely more interesting than "Watch me kick ass". Even if they don't succeed, the journey is always fun both in the series and within the fandom.

I like flawed people, what can I say?

edit: I'll also add this. I don't like Sasuke. I find most of his character traits and plot points annoying and rather distasteful... But that's a flaw. There are crucial issues with his character that even I can appreciate. Flaws that are not there because of lazy writing, but rather designed imperfections from the creator.

That's why whenever I rate Sausage I always drop that 7 or 8/10 (unless I'm trolling or pissed for some reason) even though I vehemently despise what he stands for, his addition and mark to the story is permanent and unavoidable. I can respect that quite a bit.

Yeah, a character that I despise I put higher than a character like Goku or Luffy. Legit.

Those kinds of characters are always fun; Orochimaru's [old] subtle smirks and those dark looks were amazing. I honestly can't get into unemotional characters. Some, sort of, like Itachi or Sasori. They just bore me. They can be fun, and I might think better of them for a time being.. But those types just... Something about them that irks me.

They're fine for a small amount of time, Sasori was good because he was juxtaposed against Deidara for his one arc and was hardly seen. There's even good examples of the strong silent type (Han/Gaara/Kakazu) because they CAN be and know when to be genuinely emotional/scary. Characters like Itachi, Madara, Minato and Sasori get boring, quick.

Backstory, characterization and development.
Also How appealing their fighting style is to watch.

Idgaf about power levels, How relatable a character is more important.

My faves are Lee and Neji; they are both characters who defied the odds; Lee became a ninja when people liked him selling ramen, Neji became the 2nd strongest of clan at young age despite being branded as 2nd rate human as the branch family member. Maybe i like this aspect of them; characters who give middle finger to what people say and the odds, they became what they like because that was what they have wanted.

Also characters with weaknesses, everyone have their own downfalls; if this is portrayted well as background and characterization (and both characters had it well), it works fine for me.

The fact that i love martial arts orientation is a bonus to me for liking them.

Mine would definetly be personality,I can't really tell the diff between personality an attitude but I just like cool calculative characters and my best 3 are kakashi, shikamaru and darui there just so cool and collective they never rush into conclusions and they always observe a fight before giving the final blow,to me that's just the ultimate skill a ninja can have cause with that you can defeat an opponent that IS 5* your level
