What's with all the hate on Minato in fanfiction?

Exactly as the title says. It seems that a bunch of the fics that have an Alive!Minato make him out to be a horribly abusive parent who doesn't give two shits about Kushina or his children, or that he manipulated Kushina into marrying him. God damn, if there is someone who doesn't deserve this kind of hate, it's Minato. You want to say he's a naive Hokage? Eh, I don't agree with ya, but sure. Wanna say that he'll fail when it's really important? Can't really argue with ya there, but he did cancel Obito's control over the Kyuubi, preventing a ton of damage that could've occurred otherwise.

But honestly, did I miss some sort of episode or chapter where Minato slapped a pregnant Kushina across the face before punching her in the gut? Where did all this hate come from?

Yeah. I've noticed. But to be fair, many times it's the same deal. It's not the Minato of Naruto Canon. Many times the Minato you read in FF IS OOC. For plot and lemons......for those juicy inc. lemons. You know what I mean. You read the shit too.

I mean, most characters who get derailed, there is a reason for it. Fans hated how Sakura would always hit Naruto on the head while singing Sasukes praises, still acting like she was better than Naruto so the fans made her into 'the pink banshee'. People hate how Sasuke seems like that one arrogant kid in their class, so now Sasuke suddenly rapes puppies and enjoys trying to kill Naruto. In Part I.

But with Minato, he hasn't really done anything that would make the fans hate him in such a way. Admittadely, in the early days where all we had to go on was his name, one could pretend that Naruto was his Bastard son. But after we saw the night of the Kyuubi attack, it just seems...weird. Like someone trying to make a horribley abusive pedophile rapist Jiraiya, or a Well-developed Hinata.

People often derail characters for reasons unrelated to characters' canonical portrayal. Usually it happens either out of pure dislike towards the character (and seriously, trying to explain why people love or hate this and that is pointless, opinions and stuff), or in order to make another character look better, or give said character some other kind of development than in canon (often for pairings; characters like Deidara or Hidan being "wimpfied" in yaoi comes to mind). I can imagine that Minato can be made abusive in order to give Naruto (or other kids if they are there) more reasons to angst, for example. Now I myself don't read fanfics but in worst case scenario it can be done to make Naruto more Mary Sue-ish (well, unintentionally), as many Sues have dead/abusive parents as an excuse for angsty behavior.
