a prophecy that foretold what exactly?...that someone would save the world from ending?...by that logic a number of people could have been the subject of that lame prophecy...

Duality is what gave this manga originality. Also some on your list for polar opposites are bullshit. Itachi-Sasuke, Itachi-Shisui,Madara-Izuna are all the same sides of a coin. Underdog vs Genius was the theme from the start and Kishi stuck to it without making anything complicated.

I can agree with this, it didn't ruin the manga, infact it kept up plot and character relevance. It was just how it was shown in some circumstances.
