That is, actually very believable. I mean, they weren't able to help Hiruzen in any way during the invasion arc.

Well, Orochimaru didn't actually leave the village at that point, so the 3rd doesn't actually know about Orochimaru's activities at that point.

Then why does Orochimaru have on the outfit that he curently wears on when he takes in Kabuto. Even if so then why wouldn't the 3rd look at root as questionable after Oro left because it was something he was involved with before he left.

Im not saying Root is why he left. Im asking why didn't the 3rd see Root as a little off because Oro was involved in it. Hiruzen knew Orochimaru wasn't for protecting the village at that point so why would he be with Root.

So I did a little looking around, and I found that Root was actually disbanded. I'm not sure if it was Hiruzen or Tsunade who did it, but I guess Root was investigated at some point it time, whether it was because of Orochimaru or Danzo or something else, I don't know.

Well considering he was the strongest hokage, it would be unnecessary for him to have that kind of support. Maybe they had things to do? I know J-man liked to travel a lot + Minato was maybe training and starting a family.
