She did die, just not instantly.
It was the extraction of the Kyuubi which killed her, she just had the strength to hold on until she knew her baby was safe.

now that i actually reread, i think naruto means to return the kyuubi's chakra. he did say he needed it just to fight sasuke. it'll be a little gift for him n the 9tails to come on = terms

We can't be certain of that yet ;P
Kishi will probably come up with some wicked reason for Naruto living if he decides that the Kyuubi needs to be extracted.

Anyway, referring back to the topic xD
I'm guessing that Naruto just means that he won't allow any form of abuse come to the Kyuubi - Akatsuki, misuse of powers, etc.

Depends on how much of the Kyuubi is extracted I suppose.
I don't think Gaara has any of the Ichibi's chakra left - but that was a full extraction, obviously.

& the reason the brothers had some of its chakra is because they were eaten by the Kyuubi and had to feed on it to survive. xD
