because he is arrogant and idiotic with little to nothing to back it up. he stopped learning and training and getting stronger using abilities he was born with since he left to go with orochimaru and has since relied on what others has given him.
after all this, he acts as though he is the most poweerful thing since the sage of six paths. and i bet you that he thinks if that man existed he would believe he was stronger than him.
he is also a massive douche which just makes people hate him even more

Arrogance, acts superior because of his powerful bloodline.
Bratty attitude, he expects to be handed victory on a silver platter just because he is an Uchiha.
Headcase, seems like he goes insane a couple of times.
Heartless, he doesn't truly care about anyone but himself, he even defied his brother's wishes, opting for a mission of revenge.
Immature, he can't get over the fact that there are people more powerful or more skilled than he is.
No conscience, he doesn't make decisions based on right and wrong anymore, only his personal agenda.
Obsession with revenge, he can't get over the fact that Itachi made the decisions he did, blames it on others.
Troublemaker, all he has done is cause trouble for Naruto and the ninja world at large.
These are my base reasons for hating Sasuke.
You say that now Sasuke has stopped improving his naturally-born abilities, this is true. However, I think that Sasuke has realized that there is only so much he can improve by that method. Unlike Naruto, he does not possess a massive amount of chakra to make tons of kage-bunshin to cut down on training time. That's one of the only reasons Naruto has improved as much as he has as fast as he has.
With the Kyuubi, Naruto has the ability to go farther than almost any other ninja alive at this point in time. Sasuke has seen this, and is now finding ways to even the playing field since his own natural training will not be enough to defeat Naruto. I don't see how this constitutes him "expecting to be handed victory on a silver platter," either.
While we may not like the goal he is striving to achieve, we can't deny that he is working and finding ways to achieve it despite the odds stacked against him with Naruto's massive and constantly-growing power versus his natural above-average-but-still-not-on-par-with-Naruto power. What kind of story would it be if he just saw how strong Naruto was getting and was like "Oh, whatever, time to throw in the towel, I'll never be that strong"?
You also seem to forget that Sasuke's shinobi training involved a lot of natural talent, something that our hard workers like Naruto and Lee didn't have and thus had to bust their butts to get on the same level as him/surpass him. It really only makes sense that he's proud of his bloodline. It doesn't absolve him, but it still shouldn't surprise you.
Where the heck is this bratty attitude and immaturity coming from? That sounds more like just plain hate than an opinion based on reasonable evidence.
Headcase, maybe I can go with that, though it stands to reason anyone would be a little messed up from seeing their family slaughtered in front of them as a child, but that's just me. Not everyone's as tough or amazing as Naruto, who wasn't even cognitive when his parents died (and who's... DEAR GOD! The protagonist!).
No conscience? When did Sasuke ever have a conscience? The only person I've ever seen him possibly respect and show any sort of care for was Naruto. The decisions he's made throughout his life ever since Itachi killed their clan were all based towards his agenda, from start to present, so it's never surprised me that he's like that and it's always been a part of his character.
Troublemaker, sure, he's caused a ton of trouble for the village. So did Nagato. And Gaara. And Madara. And Deidara. And Sasori. And pretty much all of Akatsuki, minus Itachi (simply because his sacrifice to save the village highly outweighs any trouble he caused it later on, imho).
Just because he's not one of the many that Naruto has converted doesn't mean that that's a reason to hate him.
(This reason here was on another reply I saw, not in the two I quoted above) He tried to kill Naruto
just because Naruto was becoming stronger than him? Hmm, last I checked, he only wanted to kill Naruto to obtain the Mangekyou, BUUUT since we're making up reasons for Sasuke doing the things he does, then I say Sasuke tried to kill Naruto while he still had the ability to because he knew one day that Naruto, at the rate he was improving, would potentially become unbeatable and an obstacle in his goals should they ever become conflicting.
I can really only agree with ONE thing amidst this mess. It was the decision he made to make Itachi's sacrifice meaningless and attack the village instead of accepting the distinguished life of a hero of Konoha that his brother wanted for him and died for.
But let's look at this in a slightly different viewpoint: say someone sacrificed a lot, maybe even their own lives, to make certain you would live your life a certain way, against your will. Does that mean that you should feel obligated that you
have to live your life that way? Aren't our lives free to live how we choose? If your family raised you to take over the family business, does that mean that you should feel shackled to that lifestyle if it's not the one you want? Logically, it makes sense, your family birthed and took the money and effort to raise you and you should pay them back by doing what they want with your life, but we all know nobody truly thinks like that anymore.
Sasuke felt that the village needed to pay for making his brother into a martyr. It's his choice to do that. I don't like it, and obviously neither does anyone else, but I say again, what kind of story would it be if it all ended there? Sasuke's vow of revenge, all this power he's trying to obtain, what sort of meaning does it have if it all comes screeching to a halt because "Oh, I was ill-informed, I didn't know what was really going on"?
Does his decision make me hate him? No, I dislike it, but I'm not so narrow-minded to reserve a deep emotion like "hate" for a fictional character. But keep in mind that his flaws have some basis; I mean, what kind of antagonist would he be without some serious flaws? Also keep in mind, as has been previously stated, that he's not the only one with character flaws. His seem more prominent because he continues to resist Naruto's attempts to convert him, and he's "the best friend turned bad."
I agree with the OP, that hating Sasuke seems to be nothing short of a fad around here. I'm not a hater of any of the characters (not even Sakura

), nor am I a rabid fangirl. Just expressing some points I think the haters are missing.
Regardless of any of the above, I agree with Mr. Fox. Haters gonna hate. Lovers gonna love. Doesn't make your points any more or less valid. At the end of the day, he's just ink on paper (or pixels on a screen, for online readers).
Also, ice cream. :ice: Hope you enjoyed the novel.
