Whats the point in closing a thread?

I see no purpose at all. If your going to close it might as well delete the thread b/c a thread that you cannot reply to is pointless. You just end up seeing replies other people made that you just want to answer back to but cant. Overall closing threads are pointless, please just delete it instead.

They are being considerate of you losing post count and reputation because for some reason you care. However, this is not the case of "Troll" or "Spam" Threads. Normally, they just delete them and don't care. Also, something about "deleting threads causes a corruption in data" and misses up the system. I could be thinking of "account deletion", but come on its all the same.
