hmm from wat ive seen the popular threads are the ones that have the most posts into it and have been on the longest

the hottest seems to be the the most commented on out of all the recent threads

popular will stick around longer if a thread is on the hottest list has say 400 something comments it will bumped out of the hottest thread section once another thread has a higher count
