Either in a suicide last resort to kill their enemy, or realizing only too late the flaws of their plans (but never repenting or atoning).

Depends on the villain. An arrogant villain like Madara deserves to be humiliated. A sympathetic villain like Nagato should die while redeeming himself. An overpowered villain like Kaguya should get punched in the face by Sakura. Et-cetera.

On OUAT, if King Arthur was to die, I'd prefer him to accidently get stabbed by Excalibur or for someone to stab him with it because it's his obsession. That type of irony wouldn't work on every villian.

Change of heart ONLY if it's done on an intellectual psychological level. Kabuto gets humiliated and therapy at the same time, Obito's defeat is mostly moral and considering all his attacks come from his willpower, one speck of self-doubt brings him down. It's fantastic.

Also defeated through their arrogance is quite nice every now and then.
