To be honest, I don't know.... if you don't read the manga, you won't be able to tell which ones are fillers and which ones are canon!! That's one of the best things about ONE PIECE!!!! Instead of asking questions, why don't you just watch? or read? I don't see how someone else's opinion matters on such a broad topic especially since everybody has different types of preferences! Like you said before, One Piece looked like sh*t.... That may be your own opinion... but we, one piece fans, have a sense of pride so we don't try to spoil it for new viewers.

One Piece is so great that many people would even say that its better than Naruto. so if you like Naruto than you will either like or love One Piece, no ifs ands or buts.
One Piece is about a boy named Luffy who has a goal and aspiration to find the legendary treasure called "one piece" and to become the pirate king. the title pirate king if compared to naruto is much bigger than title hokage cuz hokage is strongest ninja in the village whereas pirate king is strongest pirate in the world.
Luffy, Goku and Naruto are much all alike. simple minded, loves to eat, values friendship, great dreams and goals and never give up attitude. Luffy is probably the most simple minded out of any of them but like Mugi mentioned he is a genius in battle but not only that but a genius in his own way, able to solve problems and say the right things to motivate or encourage his friends.
unlike Dragonball z or Naruto, One Piece is not centered around 1 character like some already pointed out. Luffy is the main but his crew memebers not only get shine but they are very very important to the crews overall success. each member of the crew is important, each one has specific goals and abilities. some of them are strong while others are more tactical. in Naruto the only strong ones who make a difference in a fight are Naruto and Sasuke. in DBZ it is only Goku. but in OP it is EVERYONE. and reading OP you fall in love with everyone in the Strawhat Crew.
One Piece is hilarious. the goofy drawing style may be a turn off i admit but you eventually not only get used to it but also find yourself loving it also. the goofy drawing does suit the goofy humor that shows up all the time. when reading OP you will find yourself laughing on almost every single page, no exageration. Luffy being as dumb as he is sometimes is too much to bear but the characters interacting with each other is something else too. every character has a funny side to them.
but along with the funny there is deep emotions. im not talking about romance. theres non of that. but theres a deep sense of friends fighting for each other, going the extra mile, being loyal. it goes way deeper than Naruto and Sakura trying to save Sasuke i can tell you that much. speaking of Sakura, the females in OP are very very important and crucial to the teams success like i mentioned earlier unlike some might say with Sakura of Naruto
and there is pure epicness in OP. some of the battles may drag though i will admit, drag like fight battles in DBZ but overall they are pure epicness. words cannot describe how it is.
OP is right now at 600 something chapters and it feels like the story has only just gone halfway. i heard bleach has went downhill (i never got into bleach yet) and with Naruto we all get a sense that its coming to an end real soon but with OP the story is only halfway done and we have already had 600 something chapters.
and i know someone already posted this but if you havent watched it yet i advise you to please check it out. this is one of the best amvs for animes ever. it summarizes the epicness of OP and the rawness in it too.
so yea i recommend that you READ THE MANGA. read it until you catch up to the latest manga to date and than AFTER THAT WATCH THE ANIME. the anime and manga are different as with naruto manga and anime. and i admit i didnt like OP at first because of the anime eng dubbed back in the day but that was the 4kids dubbed and they edited out soo much things they really made it suck. only thing they did right was the theme song. but after you read the manga theres no need to watch the anime in eng. watching it in japanese with subs is just as good, better imo. but if you want eng dubbed i recommend looking for the funimation dubbed version. not the 4kids.

There's a great core of characters for you to root for. They may be silly a lot at some points & the comedy is always there but when it is time to be serious they do it great. There is some really good arcs with some great Villains for you to hate to bring those arcs home.
& there is an Epicness about the story of One Piece kind of something like Lord Of The Rings how large scale that story was is the same as OP.
If you like Manga/Anime especially Shonen Manga/Anime then you should give One Piece a shot.

If you're watching the dubbed version I say yes it sucks. If you're talking about the subbed version then sorry to tell you the anime version is a BEAST.
It's currently the best anime series for me. Many say that the Manga version isn't that good because of translation issues which improve slowly and steadily and this thing is true but I think you said the complete opposite. Extra-Talented I guess?

Okay, let me tell you One piece is simply the best Anime/manga ever because of many things. The one thing is that it's fun. Like realy, it's hilarious xd Even in very sad situations they can pull something fun, completely random. It has the best characters that you recognize yourself in, and it's very emotional. It's sad, I won't lie and say it isn't, it's the saddest anime ever. Try and take the saddest moment of Naruto, and make the pain 5 times bigger. That's One Piece. It's sad, but fun xd. A thing that makes it completely different from many Animes, is that the main character is not the strongest. This makes it very interesting, cause some times some baddaz people appears and just tear everything apart. And when the main character isn't the strongest, you get a very exciting excperience since you don't know what will happen.
The mysterious characters. Dragon and Shanks.... Two of the most baddas characters in anime like ever, the only thing is... They almost never appear. Dragon has appeared 2 times in the anime I think, but still everyone loves him. 10 minnutes of screening is enough to make the wiewers know that he is epic and to be feared. Then you have those who always runs around but are shit xd Buggy the clown for excample. One of the first enemies. You think: "okay, Buggy lost, that's the end of him. New enemy!", but that's not how it is. Oda (the writer of OP), never, and I repeat, NEVER forget about a character. You may think that everything is over, your fav character is about to die but BAM! Comes a character you haven't seen in 200 episodes... It's so epic. The main character isn't always your fav, and let's not forget the villains xd The villains in OP are so epic that sometimes you cath yourself cheering for them! Also, the enemy today might be the ally tomorow It's so strange, in OP the villain Luffy defeat in one episode, might be his ally in another. Thus you never know what will happen.
The storyline and moral: Well, in Naruto you have the friendship is most important thing and all. That's how it is. The only moral in Naruto is that the kids where alone but they worked it out, and grew to be loved. In OP, you have that aswell, only alot more intense. We do not get to know only about Luffy's childhood, but all the other characters past. Some has been alone from the start, some saw their home got burned away in front of them, some got thrown away of their family and the weapon they used killed the only man who cared for him, one lost his friend, one was driven away by all, his family and all, untill someone took him in... And so on.

One Piece manga is like Luffy. He might seem stupid and silly at first but when you get to know him you realise how funny, interesting, deep and, at times, serious he is.
That's one of the greatest things about One Piece. It's animation gives you the illusion of a childish and silly manga but in reality it's the opposite.

Are you for real? Just because Oda successfully incorporates humour into his manga doesn't make it less "serious" then Naruto. In fact its probably more serious then Naruto.

You have to pain through the boring parts, but I would have to say it reminds me very much of Naruto, especially the whole never give up theme and always fight for your friends or 'nakama' One piece touches your heart very significantly ( just like naruto ) except naruto is much more interesting, and keeps you pulled in at all times.
