The only thing that logically saved them from being blown apart or w/e is their relevance to the plot. If this isn't the case, you call the person out and explain why the person is logically durable enough to tank the explosion or w/e using manga scans Mr. Zelda.

"Why does the sword cut? Hurr durr" because Kishi wanted it to for obvious reasons such as showing off Shins ability & highlighting danger by trying to show Sasuke & Naruto aren't invincible.

It was given to him by Orochimaru, I'm guessing Orochimaru's special swords along with Totsuka were either owned Ashura and Indra or the Sage himself, Sasuke's being the ultimate physical weapon and Itachi's being the ultimate spiritual weapon.

Also, let's not forget Sasuke can power his sword with chakra so in a way to stabbing RSM Naruto might have been possible due to him having Sage chakra like Naruto.
