SWO, I was expecting quite a bit from the hype generated, but as I watched it, I realized how offtrack the pacing was. The plot often jumped between segments, the protagonist starting in a low-level group getting massacred to the protagonist jumping into an elite group at the vanguard of the videogame. There are no in-between segments, even though it clearly needed it.
At least with Attack on Titan, we have a steady pacing, the animation is gorgeous, and we have a clear, present danger in which many terrible things could happen. In a typical Shounin, everything gets better if you just believe in yourself hard enough. AoT threw that out of the window when people brought that up and they promptly got eaten.
