This was written for a class, so it had a set way to be written/what to be written about. It was supposed to be an angry poem, but it may not have come out that way. :/ I tried though ^_^ Critique is welcome. <3
What’s In A Name?
Since when did my name reveal my life story?
Just knowing those letters sent your hate soaring.
Maybe my name just broke your best toy,
Or perhaps it was flirting with your little boy.
Did it step on your toes, hit you in the gut?
Graffiti your car, then push it in a rut?
Pull out your hair, kick you in the shins?
Chortle and blame you of delirious whims?
So quick to judge, not a second of doubt,
You made an image of me completely inside out.
When we finally spoke, it did not matter,
Not a word I spoke was more than mere chatter.
Your mind built a castle, placing me in the moat,
Flail as I might, I could not seem to float.
Disgust in your eyes was echoed in your speech,
Trying to pierce through my calm as far as it’d reach.
Words like a dagger laced in your own verbal venom,
While an angel to most, you were my devil in denim.
You’re ingrained in my mind, like an unwanted rash,
Leaving my soul with an unattended to gash.
Though your status is higher, and age is older,
My heart remains warm, while yours grows colder.
From that first encounter, your mind was set,
That you disliked me, despite having just met.
You knew none of my past or the dreams I had claimed,
All that was definite was that you knew my name.
