What does it mean when a human is in the palm of complete and utter despair?

Maybe when you experiance pain beyond imagination or when you loose everything that matters to you. I dont think its a physical thing though.

It's exactly what it sounds like, but I guess Rokudaime's explanation works.

Absolute despair means you have been destined to it, to ruin, pain, and boken dreams. It means you have been cursed to struggle, to change the fate that will ultimately make your destiny thanks to your already scarred will. For short.. It means reality destroyed your hopes and dreams.

It's a point where everything is lost and you know it. But more so, the event or circumstance isn't over and you know it. Thus, meaning that you can see everything or anything you can attempt cannot alter an event. And naturally, these all imply a negative connotation, otherwise there's no need for despair.

Examples:

You have an exam in one hour that decides your future, and you KNOW that you don't know a single answer you answer will be fight.

Or

Let's say you are part of an army defending your home. The enemy far out numbers you, and you know you will die. Just before they attack, they reveal the heads of every family and friend of your army. Meaning you're now going to die for nothing. The ones you sought to save have been murdered as you soon will be.

It's being in an inescapable negative situation, and knowing it.

But thats not despair if you already knew it was gonna happen right?

Loneliness. When you feel as if no one wants you around them, as if you are not necessary to anyone else's life. You literally feel like you could disappear without being noticed. It's a feeling of uselessness that physically hurts, the thought that your existence means nothing.

Despair is the point void of emotion, where pain stops because it has become so intense and becomes numb at that point all value in life is lost and the person is trapped in an inescapable void of loss and nothingness.

Well, I think that each person has a different concept of "despair"

To me, despair means losing the people I love.

It is something that you can only understand if you have felt it before.

I agree. Despair would change from person to person, but generally it is usually the loss of loved ones and/or loneliness.
